Interdisciplinary Performance
with Jess Curtis

Using the principles of release technique, contact improvisation, basic acrobatics, sport and traditional partnering skills as a technical base, we will develop movement as both virtuosic performative action and as meaningful theatrical image. We will examine the physical actualities of touch, manipulation, counterbalance, force, resistance, and surrender, both as physical states and as metaphors for interpersonal and intercultural relations, creating an anthropology of touch. How does the body reorganize itself in relation to the touch of another? How does the point of contact between us change our personal relationship to gravity, eliminating the vertical, eroding the security earth beneath our feet, yet opening new horizon's for ourselves, offering the possibility to take greater risks, to support one another, and together to create the unprecedented.
